Case Study: Rails x Deliverzen

Rails and Deliverzen logo

Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Deliverzen has established itself as the go-to fulfillment 3PL for some of the fastest-growing brands in the U.S., including Divi and Formulyst. With tens of thousands of orders processed monthly, the company’s success is driven by its commitment to technology. By prioritizing innovation and investing in a strong IT team, Deliverzen has built a solid foundation for growth. Collaborations with tech partners like Rails have enabled it to scale rapidly while maintaining top operational efficiency.

Accurate and Timely Billing Became Challenging with a Growing Customer Base

Before implementing Rails, Deliverzen’s billing process was labor-intensive and inefficient. Their WMS billing module couldn’t accommodate customer-specific charges or volume-based pricing tiers, forcing the team to manually export data from multiple reports, consolidate it in Excel, and apply charges before creating each invoice in QuickBooks. This process, taking 45 minutes to 4 hours per invoice, often led to accuracy concerns of more than 10% of the total invoice amount, and delays of up to 7-10 days in sending invoices to customers.

I was spending 36 to 40 hours a week billing clients and had no time to verify invoices or do any analysis because I was still running behind on billing.

As a bootstrapped company, challenges with billing were not only causing cash flow problems in the short-term, but were preventing them from spending adequate time performing financial planning and analysis for the long-term.

When running a business, ensuring you invoice customers on time and accurately is extremely important for cash flow. Having a reliable partner like Rails allows for us to bill customers on time and accurately, and helps us with onboarding new customers billing profiles.

Rails Provided Deliverzen With Unprecedented Amounts of Automation And Visibility

Partnering with Rails has allowed Deliverzen to completely automate a once manual process. Through one-click integrations, Deliverzen was able to connect its WMS, carriers, and accounting system to Rails. After connecting their systems, the accounting team at Deliverzen was able to use Rails’ highly flexible billing module to create charges that were previously difficult to implement, such as dropship order fees or volume discounts for order and package fees.

We were frustrated after spending years implementing multiple billing softwares that still left us painfully carrying out large parts of billing manually. Rails not only automates billing, but does so by directly integrating with all the softwares needed to orchestrate it.

Rails also enabled Deliverzen to capture revenue from carrier charge adjustments made weeks or months post-delivery. Automating charge reconciliation allowed Deliverzen to identify $4,500 in unbilled adjustments for a single client within a month.

A More Streamlined And Profitable Operation

Now, Deliverzen completes invoicing within hours rather than the previous 7-10 days, while Rails prevents revenue losses of up to 10% by transparently reporting and calculating operational charges.

The access to granular data and increased visibility that Rails provides us with allowed me to discover problems with billing affecting tens of thousands of orders that I didn't even know existed, and prevented us from losing revenue from underbilling clients.

Jaymi Martin, Accounting Manager

Empowered by Rails, Deliverzen has implemented innovative pricing models, such as variable storage fees based on dwell time, to balance customer satisfaction and profitability. Rails supports Deliverzen’s growth by eliminating inefficiencies, enhancing cash flow, and providing seamless client service.

The Road Ahead

The best part about the partnership with Rails according to Deliverzen is our willingness to offer support at any time, and also take a proactive approach to solving problems or new requests.

The most encouraging thing about this partnership is that Rails eagerly works on requests and feature updates that continue to make the experience better for us and our customers.

Cleeford Innocent, IT Systems Manager

Together, Rails and Deliverzen are not only exploring the automation of B2B, receiving, and time-based project invoicing, but are also brainstorming ways to set a new standard for pricing and operations decision making using AI.
